14 FEBRUARY 2020
UPDATE: The Philippines has lifted the travel ban on Taiwan.
The remaining travel ban restricts the entry of foreign nationals coming directly from China, Hong Kong and Macau and those with travel history to those areas in the last 14 days. Filipinos and holders of permanent resident visas are allowed entry but have to undergo 14 days of mandatory quarantine.
12 FEBRUARY 2020
To address any concerns about travel to the Philippines to attend the 2020 Manila 10s International Rugby Festival on 27-29 March, we would like to update you on the situation and assure our sponsors, teams and spectators that the 2020 Manila 10s Organizing Committee is closely monitoring the reports released by the Department of Health (DOH Philippines) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on the coronavirus (nCoV) which was first reported in December 2019 originating in the Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in Mainland China.
1. As of 11 February, the Philippines has reported 382 persons under investigation (PUIs) with 3 confirmed cases, 266 patients admitted, and 113 discharged. There has been 1 reported death – the only one outside China - a Chinese national who had travelled from Wuhan on 21 January who, according to the World Health Organization, appeared to have been infected before arriving in the country.
2. While most of the tens of thousands of infected patients are in Mainland China, some have made their way to other parts of the globe. All 3 confirmed cases in the Philippines are travellers from Mainland China.
3. There is currently a temporary travel restriction and ban on the entry of all foreigners arriving from China and its SRAs Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Filipinos and permanent residents of the Philippines are allowed entry followed by a 14-day quarantine period for observation.
