The Alabang Eagles Rugby Club have started their 2009 campaign with a new look team that exudes youth and talent. The young guns include the new Eagles Captain Andrew Wolffe and he will be supported by another Philippine National player and Vice-Captain David Carman.
The youth and talent does not stop there with the two of Philippine National Under 20’s squad players coming up through the ranks to make their debut at this year’s Manila 10’s. Rupert Zappia and Juan Englebrecht will come into the Eagles line-up and these players are also bidding for starting positions in this year’s Philippine National Men’s Team.
Also traveling to join the Eagles are three of the current Philippine National men’s team who recently defeated Guam in the A5N regional tournament. Gary (Gazza) Holgate, Harry (Van Dam) Morris and Raf (Godzilla) Zappia have all decided to represent the Eagles Rugby Club and are relishing the opportunity to play with fellow Filipino based players at the Manila 10’s.
This year, The Eagles have been relegated to the Plate Division and after a lean year in 2008 they are focused on rebuilding the club to reach the glory days of competing in the “Manila 10’s” Cup Division. The Eagles have also enlisted the services of Evans Maina who has come on board one of the Alabang Eagles new Development officers and he is also taking on the role of Player Coach of this year’s Eagles Team.
These youthful players will provide a solid platform for a very competitive Alabang Eagles Side at this year’s Eagles and Manila 10’s and they will be aptly supported by other club players such as the Big Mac, David, Ronald Fong, Chris Hettleand club stalwart, Tommy Egerton.
The younger, stronger and definitely better looking Eagles outfit will be out to win alltheir games in 2009 and with this much youth and talent, they should be hard to beat.
The Alabang Eagles players and supporters would once again like to take this opportunity to thanks the club sponsors, who again and again outlay money, kit, transport, food and most importantly BEER to help encourage players to represent the Eagles.
