The reigning champions of the Manila Tens are the Black Watch. But just who are the Black Watch?

They are in fact one of the British Army’s most famous fighting units and mere mention of their name is enough to conjure up visions of bravery, valour, true Scottish grit and determination.

Since 2006 they have been a battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, which performs a light infantry role in the British Army. Prior to that date they were an independent regiment with a proud history dating back to 1725. They have been involved in just about every conflict where British forces have seen action since that date......most recently in Iraq as part of Operation Telic. They are due to start a seven month tour of duty of Afghanistan immediately after the Manila Tens.
