It has been another power-packed year for the Nomads Bullettes since the last M10’s! Games Night. The first ever Bullettes Games Night bonded some 30 ladies that accumulated in the Bullettes reserves over the year. It was a fun-filled night that challenged the ladies’ game IQ and more than just the strength of their core muscles! There was definitely a lot more info going around that night than we needed to know – including some fancy birth names and Narelle’s intimate sense of direction! The (In)Famous Singapore Tour. With team morale and fitness at an all-time high, two months of slip-sliding and diving in pure Nomads mud prepared us for our 2nd International Tour in Singapore. The high intensity began at the airport where a sleep-deprived Clair “ejaculated” the team into the flight in record time, and continued onto the Temasek Polytechnic and Turf City pitches. The Bullettes and Cocktails (Bullettes B) showed the Singapore teams how much Philippine Touch Rugby has greatly developed. We also showed them how we play hard and party hard! Touch & Soul Exhibit. Not just high caliber touch rugby players, the multi- faceted Bullettes bared it all for our 2008 fundraiser with the Pediatric Cancer Ward of the PGH and Les Oursins as beneficiaries. No less than National Artist BenCab was at the helm of the 14 Filipino artists who participated in the exhibit, and Touch, Art and Charity combined effortlessly with the help of Sommelier Selections, Mabolo and LR Philippines. Starting off the holiday break, the Christmas Rugby Party – probably the last to be held at the Barberis Bunker – acknowledged Emmanuelle Fallourd with the 2008 Most Promising Player - and the Hill-Smiths’ contributions with the Appreciation Award. School League Tournaments. Despite easily being twice the age of most of the competition, the Bullettes made sure that they worked for every try! It was a great opportunity for newbies to step up and prove their mettle as Bullettes, and for the oldies to learn some fancy new tricks Junior Touch Launch. What better way to ensure the growth of Touch than to start the players off young and develop love of the game early? The Junior Touch Launch has 20 children starting off the new generation of Touch! Pre-Valentines Charity Event at the PGH. One of the forthcoming babies of the Touch & Soul Exhibit, the charity event at PGH was an intense experience for the ladies. It was heart wrenching and eye-opening just to spend quality time conversing with the mostly terminally-ill children and their caregivers and providing them with their basic medical necessities. Homage to Narelle Hill. January brought about the departure of the Hill-Smith family. Narelle (and Andrew) selflessly contributed so much to the Bullettes and our game – teaching us how to be loud on the pitch, how to argue with the ref among many other good things. From Narelle’s latest email: “Have just realised that I was living in the real world while in the Philippines and have now returned to the twilight zone where everything is the same, boring thing (aarrrgghhh).” We miss you, too, Narelle! With the departure of Narelle Hill, the captaincy has become a pretty big space to fill (no pun intended) and so we present our Co-Captains Lala Lejeune and Emma Fallourd and our Vice Captain Arlene Trinkler. Lala, as every woman, is a complex... or should I say a complete woman! Few words to describe her? Fun, Artist, OC... Let’s elaborate a bit. As a friend, she is loyal and understanding. As a mum, she is a happy one! As a wife, she is pretty well French-ised, with all the “Putain!” and the critical thinking going around. As a Touch rugby player, she is very motivated, always wanting to improve and she is definitely in Loovvve with the game! not to mention the third-half part: she is a party queen! And as captain, she is very dedicated, never afraid of extra load of work, and that’s just the beginning! She really has a lot to give to the team... so let’s enjoy it! A French woman named Emmanuelle–like most newbies, she started off with absolutely no knowledge of Touch Rugby. From the very beginning, she was very inquisitive regarding the all the aspects of the game, aggressive and thorough which is typical of her nationality. Due to her innate talent, she is now serves as an inspiration to those new to the sport. Bravo, Emma! Continue on with what you have started! Arlene, our Vice Captain has been around since the Bullettes came to be. This charming, coquettish and charismatic personality has always been a staunch supporter of the sport and the team despite her responsibilities as the captain of the Nomadettes. She is the epitome of all-around dedication: mother to Carl, wife to William, excellent sportswoman for both touch rugby and football (and badminton!), businesswoman and active contributor to the Nomads and Philippine community. There’s going to be a lot of Looooovvvvee going on this year!
